Amputees Across America stops in for a visit

Rob called me at 11:13 on Friday and said, "Amputees Across America is here.  You might want to come meet them."  He thought that because of my BikeAble initiative, and he was right.

I boogied on over to the shop (after declaring "Early lunch" to my office mate) and got there in time to not only meet the AAA riders but also to see the shop temporarily overrun with test riders.  Both good signs!

I had the opportunity to speak with the lead rider, Joe Sapere, about prosthetics and pedals (it's amazing what one can do with a bottle cage).  We also chatted about cycling in general and its liberating effects on those with disabilities.  Luke Myers, a 19 year old from Colorado, just wanted to talk about all the odd bikes in the shop and about how he wanted to switch from a triple to a double.

After hanging out, catching up, and buying some jerseys, the guys were ready to head out for a weekend of casual rides before getting back on their cross country tour the next week.  Monday was to be a photo op ride and visit to HealthSouth of Pleasant Gap, PA.  And I was to join them for that ride.
