2015 RBR Rally photos!

I feel like I say the same thing every year, but aw, what the heck. Another year, another rally, another really good time, and a perfect event for catching up with friends while we tour the central Pennsylvania countryside on recumbents.

Rumor has it there was some rain this year, but we’re neither confirming nor denying that. If there isn’t a photo of it, it didn’t happen … right?

Anyway, thanks to everybody who came out and especially to those who helped us out by creating a few new routes for our riders. Both Laurel’s and Jerry’s new routes were hits!

Changes to Performer seat pads

One of the things we set out to do with our Performer partnership was to help them improve the line for our primarily US customer base. The latest improvement is to the seat pad for their FRP seats. The old pad was quite thin, especially compared to most varieties of Ventisit, and had a hard time staying in place on the seat without additional modifications. Both issues have been resolved with the new seat pad.

Easy Racers Gold Rush for sale

We’ve had a few very gray days here at RBR, enough so that we’ve largely avoided taking recumbent photos outside, but the magnificent shine on this Easy Racers Gold Rush provided just the right balance to offset our overcast weather. This is a used Gold Rush that we have available for $2600.

2010/2011 Hase Kettwiesel and Lepus recall

Hase Bikes has announced a recall of all Hase Kettwiesel and Lepus trikes sold between January/February of 2010 and December of 2011. If you purchased a Kettwiesel or Lepus from us in that time frame, give us a call at 814.234.4636 or email sales@rbr.info to make arrangements to replace some potentially faulty bolts.

Full details of the recall follow:

In the course of our ongoing product-evaluation work, we have discovered that some Kettwiesel and Lepus models have unfortunately been sold with drive bolts that, under certain circumstances, could post a safety risk associated with material failure. In extreme situations, these bolts can fail.

This potential risk applies to Kettwiesel models from the following period:
January 2010 – December 2011

As well as Lepus models from the following period:
February 2010 – December 2011

For safety reasons, the above specified products must be taken out of use until the respective bolts have been replaced. Trikes that were sold before or after the specified periods are not affected by this recall.

It is important to us that all trikes from HASE BIKES maintain their reliability throughout their service life. If you purchased your KETTWIESEL or LEPUS in the specified time periods, it is imperative that you stop using your trike immediately and take it to your dealer as soon as possible to have the drive bolts replaced. If you are uncertain as to whether your trike is one of the models affected by this recall, please contact your dealer for assistance.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this recall may cause and promise that, in the future, we will remain committed to ensuring your safety. And of course we hope that you will enjoy many more fun-filled years with your trike from HASE BIKES.

The bolts shown in read must be replaced. Fig. above with differential, below without.

While we were out…

Murphy’s Law being what it is, our container stuffed with Performer recumbents arrived while the shop was closed!

Thankfully, I was able to meet the driver and get 60 recumbents unloaded into the shop with the help of former mechanic Frank and my coworker Ginger.

So if you’re looking to buy a Performer, we have one for you!

ICE Full Fat trike photos

While we were away in the first half of February, an ICE Full Fat was delivered to the shop and had to remain dormant until our return. It has since been sprung from its box, but far too early for Spring, which works out in this case because we got some great photos of it in the snow. This is a customer build, so it features a Rohloff on the rear with a Metropolis Patterson drive up front for a 2×14 gearing configuration. This is also a full suspension build, even though the fat tires on those Surly Clown Shoe rims provide plenty of absorption all on their own.

ICE Full Fat trikes start around the $8500 range. This one came in a bit north of that.

Vacation, time to get away

You know, sometimes we wonder if RBR really stands for “Rob’s Busy Relaxing” because yeah, we’re closing again for two weeks from February 3rd through February 14th. The shop will be open again on February 17th.

Oh well, enjoy this Valentine’s Day card from ICE in the meantime. We’d send it to you, but we don’t want to anger your spouse.

ICE Full Fat 26fs fat tire trike in motion

ICE Trikes earlier this year unveiled their upcoming Full Fat 26fs folding trike, a design based on the custom trike they built for Maria Leijerstam and her Antarctic ride.

The pictures they released were certainly lovely, but nothing communicates poetry in motion quite like some YouTube video. Enjoy!
