I feel like I say the same thing every year, but aw, what the heck. Another year, another rally, another really good time, and a perfect event for catching up with friends while we tour the central Pennsylvania countryside on recumbents.

Rumor has it there was some rain this year, but we’re neither confirming nor denying that. If there isn’t a photo of it, it didn’t happen … right?

Anyway, thanks to everybody who came out and especially to those who helped us out by creating a few new routes for our riders. Both Laurel’s and Jerry’s new routes were hits!

Easy Racers Gold Rush for sale

We’ve had a few very gray days here at RBR, enough so that we’ve largely avoided taking recumbent photos outside, but the magnificent shine on this Easy Racers Gold Rush provided just the right balance to offset our overcast weather. This is a used Gold Rush that we have available for $2600.

ICE Full Fat trike photos

While we were away in the first half of February, an ICE Full Fat was delivered to the shop and had to remain dormant until our return. It has since been sprung from its box, but far too early for Spring, which works out in this case because we got some great photos of it in the snow. This is a customer build, so it features a Rohloff on the rear with a Metropolis Patterson drive up front for a 2×14 gearing configuration. This is also a full suspension build, even though the fat tires on those Surly Clown Shoe rims provide plenty of absorption all on their own.

ICE Full Fat trikes start around the $8500 range. This one came in a bit north of that.

Not meshing with your Challenge trike seat?

If you’ve been riding your Challenge recumbent trike for a while and have decided the seat just ain’t your thing, you might be interested to know that Challenge will start selling a new mesh seat starting in February.

No word yet on pricing, but here are some photos to get you all excited for some meshy goodness. Mmmmm… meshy.

ICE wants your trike photos

We’ve received notice from ICE that they’re running a bit of a trike photo contest. All photos have to include a trike (any make or model, but I bet they’d prefer if it were an ICE) and can’t be radically altered in Photoshop (or Paintshop Pro or MS Paint or GIMP or MacPaint or Deluxe Paint). Photos must be uploaded to ICE by the end of November and winners will be announced on December 16th.

What’s at stake? First prize gets $300 worth of ICE accessories (handy if you have an ICE) and two runners up will get an ICE Radical Side Pod for, yep, ICE mesh seats.

To take part in the contest, hit up ICE’s Facebook page where you can also read the full official rules of the contest. And do read them – you might be surprised to learn that residents of Arizona, New Jersey, and Vermont are ineligible.

Green with envy – the Challenge Alize

RBR’s first customer, Jay ‘BentJay’ Singer, continues to purchase his recumbents from us. His latest addition is a brand new Challenge Alize in a bright shade of green.

We’ve done photos of a yellow Alize in the past, but those photos were practically in the dark. Instead, take a look at what will likely be the last green we see until next Spring.

Catbike Musashi – Put a sock on it!

We’ve fallen into the habit of coming up with weird names for the Catbike Musashi recumbent. We’ve had our Blusashi with the strikingly blue frame. We’ve had the Mushorti which featured the more recent short frame variation of the Musashi. And now, we have possibly the worst name pun yet… The Musocki.

Yes, Rob has taken a custom made body sock that we commissioned for a Trimuter BigWheel, paired it with an HP Velotechnik Streamer fairing, and mounted it all to his Musashi.

Benefits? Better aerodynamics and improved heat retention, which will come in handy as we enter the chilly Pennsylvania autumn. The only downside seems to be that the backs of the hands rub against the sock. Anyone looking to do the same should get in the habit of wearing at least light gloves in order to reduce mild skin abrasions over long rides.

Another rally passes

Wait a minute… What’s going on here? Are we posting a new blog entry? By golly, we are!

Rally 2010 has come and gone. A good time was had by all, even though we had some awfully humid heat on Saturday.

We have photos up in our gallery for those of you who want to relive the memory or for others who have never been to one of our gatherings.

In the coming weeks, we’ll get our videos posted. We have video of Tom Flohr’s talk about Trident Trikes, Bryan J. Ball’s impromptu stand-up comedy performance, and Judi Bachmann’s presentation of what’s new at Reverse Gear.

And we had a live episode of BentCast recorded at the rally. Give it a listen if you’d like to hear from co-hosts Bryan J. Ball and Travis Prebble (that’s me), Ian Sims of Greenspeed, Tom Flohr of Trident Trikes, and Rob Gentry (however briefly) of RBR.

Catbike Blusashi

We might have talked about the Musashi before, done a bunch of photos, et cetera. And you’ve probably seen that stark white Musashi on every recumbent site you’ve visited. But have you seen it… in blue? It’s practically a different bike. So much so that I hereby dub this the Catbike Blusashi!

Dear Big Cat HPV, my amazing marketing skills are very much for hire. In fact, my wife would love it if you gave me a job and moved us all to Florida. No joke, she frequently asks me if you guys are hiring.

Ha ha, just kidding Rob! Well, I am. My wife … no, she really does ask that.

So, uh, how about some photos of that Blusashi? Our handsome bike model is Tom Hovan (aka steamer), shop regular and reviewer for some journal site. And while I typically try to avoid getting my car in the photos, it just seemed a natural fit today.

Here comes the Rover

Could we interest you in a trike that will fit just about everyone in your family (without adjusting the chain), can break down into smaller chunks for transport, has a 5′ turning radius, an easy-to-sit-in seat (18 inches high!) and sells for as little as $799?

Oh, sorry, we thought that might be appealing. That’s why we went ahead and ordered two of TerraTrike’s new Rover tadpole trikes. I guess if you’re not into that, we’ll just have to ride them around and, on occasion, use them as cool desk chairs.

Joking aside – TerraTrike has built a great trike for casual riders and folks that find it difficult to get down into the seat of typical tadpole trikes. Our Rovers will be showing up in the second half of May.
