ICE Full Fat trike photos

While we were away in the first half of February, an ICE Full Fat was delivered to the shop and had to remain dormant until our return. It has since been sprung from its box, but far too early for Spring, which works out in this case because we got some great photos of it in the snow. This is a customer build, so it features a Rohloff on the rear with a Metropolis Patterson drive up front for a 2×14 gearing configuration. This is also a full suspension build, even though the fat tires on those Surly Clown Shoe rims provide plenty of absorption all on their own.

ICE Full Fat trikes start around the $8500 range. This one came in a bit north of that.

ICE Full Fat 26fs fat tire trike in motion

ICE Trikes earlier this year unveiled their upcoming Full Fat 26fs folding trike, a design based on the custom trike they built for Maria Leijerstam and her Antarctic ride.

The pictures they released were certainly lovely, but nothing communicates poetry in motion quite like some YouTube video. Enjoy!

Not meshing with your Challenge trike seat?

If you’ve been riding your Challenge recumbent trike for a while and have decided the seat just ain’t your thing, you might be interested to know that Challenge will start selling a new mesh seat starting in February.

No word yet on pricing, but here are some photos to get you all excited for some meshy goodness. Mmmmm… meshy.

Catrike end of year sales

Catrike has THREE sales going on for the end of 2010.

First is both sale and fundraiser. Catrike is raising funds to support breast cancer awareness through Libby’s Legacy. If you order a pink or aqua Catrike between now and the end of the year, you’ll get the custom color at no extra charge and Catrike will donate $50 of the sale to Libby’s Legacy. This applies only to pink and aqua colors.

Second is $200 off MSRP for Catrike R Series configurations for the Road, Speed, Expedition, and 700. The R Series switches up the components a bit to SRAM Rival compact cranks (50-34T), Rival derailleurs, TT500 bar end shifters, and 11-32 10spd rear cassette. R Series trikes are available in graphite or black as standard colors and come with a candy red tie rod.

Third is a 10th Anniversary “Snow Cat” sale. All Catrikes and Catbikes in white, blue, or candy blue are available for $200 off MSRP.

So let’s sum up: buy a pink or aqua trike at no extra charge and $50 donated to charity; $200 off an R Series Road, Speed, Expedition, or 700; $200 off any Catrike/bike in white, blue, or candy blue.

Green with envy – the Challenge Alize

RBR’s first customer, Jay ‘BentJay’ Singer, continues to purchase his recumbents from us. His latest addition is a brand new Challenge Alize in a bright shade of green.

We’ve done photos of a yellow Alize in the past, but those photos were practically in the dark. Instead, take a look at what will likely be the last green we see until next Spring.

Here comes the Rover

Could we interest you in a trike that will fit just about everyone in your family (without adjusting the chain), can break down into smaller chunks for transport, has a 5′ turning radius, an easy-to-sit-in seat (18 inches high!) and sells for as little as $799?

Oh, sorry, we thought that might be appealing. That’s why we went ahead and ordered two of TerraTrike’s new Rover tadpole trikes. I guess if you’re not into that, we’ll just have to ride them around and, on occasion, use them as cool desk chairs.

Joking aside – TerraTrike has built a great trike for casual riders and folks that find it difficult to get down into the seat of typical tadpole trikes. Our Rovers will be showing up in the second half of May.

How to fold an ICE trike

You might remember all those photos we had of the then largely veiled 2010 ICE trikes from Interbike 2009. During that week, we begged ICE to let us shoot video of the folding mechanism, but they asked that we refrain so they could make their own splash with their successful launch.

Well now the trikes are in the wild, so all bets are off mister! What was the first thing we did? Well, rode the trike. But you can be sure the second thing we did was … take photos. But when all of that was done, we shot video of the folding mechanism.

I now present to you that which was until recently hidden from the world. No, I’m not talking about my LEGO Stormtrooper t-shirt.

Trident Trikes Chameleon Convertitrike

Now that the shop is in full swing again, we have new equipment coming in the door which means it is time for me to bust out the camera and start clicking.

Today was spent with the Trident Trikes Chameleon Convertitrike, a machine with a name as long as its wheelbase. There is one incredibly unique thing about this tandem.

It can be converted from a tandem to a single (hence the name), which means you’re really getting two trikes for the price of one trike… with two seats. It’s like buying a tandem and having somebody say, “You know what? Here’s a single just for you.” It’s like riding down the road with your significant other who’s up in the captain seat and starting to get really crabby about your poor pace so you pull out the coupler wrench and say “Fine! I’ve got all the gearing anyway, so buh-bye!” and drop their grumpy can on the side of the road while you take off for an enjoyable solo ride. (RBR does not recommend converting the trike while in motion.)

Now that we’ve enjoyed that little liberation fantasy paragraph, let’s get to the photos.

ICE teases with new media

ICE has released some new images and two short videos leading up to a larger announcement regarding the 2010 Trice line.

Trident Stowaway II photos

Like a few other folks out there, RBR is now on board as a dealer of Trident Trikes. The price/value ratio was just too good to ignore. Here are photos of the Trident Stowaway II – everything you see on the trike is stock. Yes, you read that right. A trike that comes with lights, mirror, rack, fenders, and folding mechanism for under $1600 (the Stowaway I is less than $1300!). We haven’t had a chance to ride it yet (you’ll see why in the photos), but it sure looks good.
