Pull the Parachute?!?

Ok… you have to read this for yourself to get the whole picture, and maybe I don’t have the story quite right but his is the “elevator-version” as I understand. Several lads want to do a velomobile trip in Ireland. Part of the route involves some very high ground and of course what goes up [...]

Cyclemeter Review

Here’s a little review I wrote for Cult of Mac about the Cyclemeter iPhone app. I’ve tried a lot and so far it’s my favorite. Pop on over and have a looksee.

“Capital Bikeshare – D.C. Stations Announced”

Why is this map important to North American cyclists! Well, partly because it shows where the 114 Capital Bikeshare stations are proposed to go, but mostly because of where it is… Washington, D.C. When bicycle advocates want to create attention, alter the minds of decision makers and seek funding for their proposals, they often head [...]

So, what’s wrong with this picture…

Abso-bloody-lutely nothing! I wish everyone I know had at least four recumbents… there just isn’t a nicer way to go! And the really nice part is that all four are road worthy again. The lads from Bentley Cycle and Trading Post were picking up a trade-in (that classy chassis on the truck hood in the [...]

Broke Both Bikes — Need Advice!

Penny and I went for an absolutely beautiful ride in Red Deer yesterday… just 20 kilometers but through some gorgeous areas along Waskasoo Creek. We’ll have to video that ride sometime. Near the end of the ride we had two accidents. Firstly, Penny hit a bollard in the middle of the trail (the kind that [...]

Bilenky Viewpoint

For me, a Hase Pino was my first look at a stoker-forward tandem and I thought it was the answer to many of the concerns I had about standard tandems (sight-line for the stoker and communication between riders being the foremost issues). It seems obvious now, seeing the Bilenky Viewpoint, that there are other rides [...]

Ecobamboobiker

Luis Antonio Dos Santos Franz, on his marvelous Portuguese blog Luisfranz.blogspot.com had a fascinating post on the work of Klaus Volkmann, aka The Ecobamboobiker… Klaus has a website (in Portuguese, but that’s why I use Google translate) at Ecobamboobikes.blogspot.com where he covers his rides since he built this recumbent but also the processes he went [...]

Got a soft spot…

Got a soft spot in my heart for Burley recumbents. My recumbent #1 was (is) a Burley Jett Creek. Love that sweet Burley LWB cushy ride! Peter Stull sent us a notice of a Burley Recumbent Close-Out SALE! you might want to go see at Bicycleman.com. They “purchased the few recumbents Burley had in their [...]

Trike Steering: A primer

A time trial upright tricyclist making a fast turn. From Flickr user fuzzytnth3 The lads over at Easy Streets Recumbents have posted a great little primer on trike steering in an article by Thad Sitton. If you are new to trikes, you are new to the alternative steering mechanisms such a direct and indirect (aka [...]

Recumbent Cycle Con Postponed

Recumbent Cycle Con will not be happening in 2010 after all. The dates have now been pushed back to October, 2011. Not sure when this happened. We weren’t notified and as I understand it, neither were many of the exhibitors. We have no idea what the reasoning behind the switch is.
