2013 RBR Rally (Party) Schedule

Friday, June 7th

Store Hours: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

7:00 PM - Kick-Off

Appetizers (finger food, not dinner) will be served and a cash bar will be available. Meet your fellow recumbent cycling enthusiasts and relax after your week and your journey. BentRider Online co-editor Larry Varney will talk about his recent cross country tour.

Location: Chairman's Room, Ramada Inn (Make a right out of the RBR lot. The Ramada is on the right, just past M&T Bank and directly across the street from the Autoport.)

Saturday, June 8th

8:30 AM - Final Registration and Check-In at Mount Nittany Middle School in Boalsburg

Directions: The school is in Boalsburg, off South Atherton Street (aka Route 322), two miles east of RBR. Make a right out of the RBR lot and pass 4 lights. Turn left at the 5th light, Warner Road (Route 45 goes to the right there). Then make a left on the first road you come to; it takes you up the hill to the school parking lot.

9:30 AM - Morning Tour

Meet at Boalsburg Mount Nittany Middle School parking lot. Enjoy a 59, 34, 10-18, or 5 mile mapped ride with leaders and sweepers. Helmets are required, and bring plenty of water. Longer rides pass places you can stop for lunch en route

For those wishing to drive together to the Spring Mills/Sinking Creek starting site (shorter, flatter rides), please meet at the Middle School. We can drive to the school at Spring Mills together after a group photo so there is no need to take your bikes or trikes off your car before driving to Spring Mills.

RIDE MAPS WITH CUE SHEETS: Penns Valley Long (59 miles) | Penns Valley Medium (34 miles) | Penns Valley Short (18 miles)

Noon to 3:30 PM - Free time

There are no regular Store Hours during this time. Come join us at the Boalsburg Mount Nittany Middle School parking lot for: Demo rides, conversation, and general fun.

Afternoon Self-Guided Tour

If you have more energy, take a map from your registration packet, grab some other recumbent folks, and go exploring the Central PA countryside. Choose from rides for all levels of experience. You could drive out to Penn's Cave (mile 15 on the Penns Valley Ride map) and ride past buffalo or see the caves by boat. Socialize, relax, ride the shorter Lindan Hall Loop. (The Linden Hall Loop is short and pretty but has a respectable hill almost mid-way.)

5:30 PM - Stan and Darlene Smith's in Oak Hall

Blues artist and local sensation Richard Sleigh will play from 6:30 PM. Socialize and relax at our picnic supper. Our feast is again from Clem's Barbecue, featuring pulled chicken barbecue, their famous boneless ribs and yummy side dishes. Myers Dairy ice cream sandwiches have become a must-do!

Directions to Stan and Darlene Smith's in Oak Hall:

Leaving from RBR's parking log, go RIGHT onto Route 322/Atherton St. Travel 2 miles. LEFT on Warner Rd. (toward 322 Bypass). Pass Mary Elizabeth St. and under highway bridge. RIGHT onto Linden Hall Rd. Just ahead and to the left, you'll be there.

A note about your post-party safety: We urge you to be cautious with drinking, so that you can drive safely back and enjoy a morning ride with us. If you have any doubt about this when you're ready to leave the party: please talk to Rob or Alycia or Kathy or Jean. We can easily arrange your safe transport home and back to your car on Sunday morning.

Sunday, June 9th

9:00 AM: Morning Tour

Before your trip home, meet us at the Fairbrook Park parking lot. Enjoy one or both loops of the mapped route with tour leaders and sweepers.

Directions to Fairbrook Park: Make a RIGHT out of RBR lot or the Ramada Inn lot, then go RIGHT at the 1st light, Ruby Tuesday's on corner. University Drive becomes Whitehall Road at the bend. Follow this past Waupelani Drive and make a left onto West College Ave (Route 26) and follow it as it blends with Route 45 and continues straight through Pine Grove Mills. Make a LEFT onto Tadpole Rd. Park is .3 miles on RIGHT.

For everyone driving vehicles to Fairbrook Park, you can still go the way you may remember from previous years (staying on Whitehall Rd all the way to Tadpole Rd and making a left on Tadpole - it's under construction and you can't bike on it OR return to College Ave/Route 26 or head east on it due to the contruction). Reverse above instructions to return to RBR or State College (take a right out of Fairbrook Park, left on Route 45, going slower as it curves left amidst the town of Pine Grove Mills, rejoining 26/College Ave). Those heading East on 322 to go home may want to head directly to Boalsburg by staying on 45 as it turns right, skipping downtown State College entirely.

RIDE MAPS WITH CUE SHEETS: Fairbrook Long (35 miles) | Fairbrook Short (15 miles)
