RBR Blog

bikephillycatrikeTravis is the webmaster, resident blogger, and A/V geek of RBR. He is a fan of recumbents but couldn't possibly talk in terms of gear ratios, so don't expect his blog entries to be a technical tour de force. But do expect them to be down to earth if not a little overenthusiastic at times.

And please excuse his strong bias for Catrike, Hase, and HP Velotechnik.

Hangin' with some Optima Oryx and a Falcon

You might have heard about the Optima Oryx and Optima Falcon, two (or rather, four) new models of Optima recumbents that are out this year. It just so happened that we got our hands on the first bikes to enter the country, so we built them up and did our usual parking lot photo shoot. Missing here, though, is an orange Optima Falcon 26/20 USS that was also in captivity... until somebody bought it.

And the blue Oryx is already spoken for. And maybe even the green Falcon. Wow... these things are going fast!!

Ridekick Power Trailer

We first encountered the Ridekick at Interbike 2009 and thought it was a cool concept way back then, so it's a bit of a wonder why it took us so long to decide to get one in the shop. Now that we've ridden one around for a bit, we're hooked. It's a great mix of cost and utility. The Ridekick retails for $699 and, with the purchase of extra throttles and hitch plates, can easily be used with multiple bikes/trikes.

This might be the most time Rob has yet spent in front of the camera for one of these videos.

Optima Falcon photos

Hasn't it just been the longest time since we've had a blog post? Yes, yes it has. So let's get back to it with this gallery of Optima Falcon shots we did in the shop late one night.

After Recumbent Cycle-Con, Optima shipped two Falcons and two Oryxes to us and they're moving fast. One Falcon has already been sold. One Oryx is going to Recumbent Journal and a Falcon is going to BentRider Online. That leaves... one 26/20 Oryx in yellow!

But here's the orange Falcon:

Photos of a very red Optima HighBaron

It's so very red. Yes, the new Optima HighBaron frames we've ordered have arrived, so we grabbed one and kitted it out with SRAM Red cranks, SRAM XX components, and American Classic 700c wheels. And it sparkles so beautifully in the sun.
